    Southwest Service Administrators is a Third Party Administrator (TPA) providing unique and specialized administrative services to labor-management Trust Funds (primarily) in the southwest United States with offices in Phoenix, AZ (our corporate service center), Albuquerque, NM and Salt Lake City, UT since 1995.

    Southwest Service Administrators is currently seeking an experienced Pension Analyst.  The focus of this position is to provide customer service for pension participants along with computing and maintaining pension benefits and records.



    • Perform with guidance routine and recurring plan administration tasks for clients' defined benefit plans (e.g., benefit calculations, retiree and death admin processing, annual data updates, assist with preparation of benefit statements)
    • Work cooperatively with other team members (Clients plan administrators, actuaries) to complete
    • Be accountable to team members for agreements and commitments
    • Actively participate in team meetings and training activities
    • Gain understanding of the plan design ( e.g., benefit formulas, options, eligibility)
    • Follow and update documentation materials as directed
    • Maintain complete and accurate work papers and audit trails
    • Learn and use Professional Excellence tools and concepts to ensure efficient and quality output/service delivery
    • Serve as a contact with all Fund and Pension members
    • Adhere to plan documents and government regulations in administering plans
    • Serve as primary, daily contact to clients on delivery of services
    • Performs technical review for straight forward pension calculations, correspondence and payment entry/trust instructions as they arise
    • Resolve more complex plan provision questions and issues surfaced
    • Follow and update documentation materials as directed
    • Respond to and resolve complex issues, including those escalated by members
    • Raise issues as appropriate to Team Supervisor or Department Manager
    • Perform additional responsibilities and projects as may be assigned periodically.
    • Address all types of requests
    • Provide detailed information to the Pension Payroll team regarding overpayments
    • Review QDRO set ups
    • Review survivor set ups
    • Respond to associated pension payroll issues
    • Increase efficiency within client teams by identifying ways to improve processes
    • Ability to organize, set priorities, work independently and complete multiple projects within established deadline


    • 2-4+ years of defined benefit plan administration and manual calculation experience is a plus but not required
    • Strong mathematics, statistics required
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Solid expertise in Microsoft Excel and Word (i.e. pivot tables and lookup functions)
    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Professional, client-focused approach to colleagues and assignments
    • Seeks out experiences that may change perspective or provide an opportunity to learn new things
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of defined benefit, defined contributions and Taft Hartley plan design
    • Ability to follow through with procedures.
    • Ability to sit for long periods of time operating a computer keyboard.
    • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferable.
